What it does

Three jobs, one dock

Site security

Eyes on the property after hours.

  • After-hours patrol
  • Alarm-triggered launch
  • Thermal + night
After-hours patrol

Scheduled night routes over the clubhouse, maintenance barn, equipment and perimeter. Matrice 4TD flies with thermal, Night Scene mode and an NIR light that reaches up to 100 m (DJI figure).

Alarm-triggered launch

Tie your alarm system to FlightHub 2 and an alarm can launch the drone to that spot, with live video to your team on the way. We set up the integration during configuration.

Site documentation

A record of the whole course, on a schedule.

  • Course maps
  • Project progress
  • Storm damage
  • Asset records
Course mapping

Orthomosaics and 3D models built in the cloud from scheduled Matrice 4D mapping flights. DJI says the 4/3 mapping camera can map without ground control points. Big courses may need more than one task (up to 2,000 images per task).

Construction & renovation progress

Fly the same mapping task each week and compare dates side by side, or let change detection flag what changed.

Storm damage

A saved route captures the same views from the same spots after every storm. The dock reads wind and rain and holds flights until conditions are safe.

Asset records

Photos are pinned to where they were taken, so bridges, cart paths, drainage, buildings and trees build a dated record in your FlightHub 2 project.

Turf & plant health monitoring

Find the spots worth a walk.

  • Wet & dry areas
  • Stressed turf
  • Irrigation
  • Tree health
What it screens for

Matrice 4TD thermal (640 × 512, up to 1280 × 1024 in UHR mode) shows areas that read cooler or warmer than the turf around them, which can point to wet spots, dry spots or an irrigation problem. High-resolution color photos and the 48 MP tele cameras show thinning or discolored turf and tree canopies up close.

Screening, not diagnosis

It shows your superintendent where to look. It doesn't diagnose disease or stress, and it doesn't replace soil-moisture readings or an agronomist.

NDVI?

Matrice 4D and 4TD aren't multispectral, so they don't produce NDVI or other plant-health indexes. That needs a different payload or platform. Ask us about options.

About this view

The right side is an illustration of what a thermal view looks like, made from the color photo. It isn't thermal data.

A real Matrice 4TD thermal image shows surface temperature. Areas that read cooler or warmer than the turf around them can point to wet spots, dry spots or an irrigation problem. It shows your superintendent where to look. It's screening, not diagnosis.

What a dock adds

On a dock, Matrice 4TD flies the routes you schedule and streams live video to your staff through FlightHub 2, by link or QR code.

Routes are planned around play. Part 107 still limits flying directly over people.

Coverage

One dock, the whole course

The dock lives on site. Routes loop the holes, buildings and perimeter.

How we place the dock

A site survey checks power, network, sky view, a secure spot and the airspace. Real coverage depends on terrain, trees, buildings and signal, so we confirm it on site before install.

Automations

It runs on its own

You set the plan. The dock flies it, charges and does it again.

Scheduled routes

Set it once in FlightHub 2. The drone flies on the plan.

Alarm-triggered launch

An alarm sends the drone to the spot.

Auto maps & reports

Photos upload and become 2D and 3D maps in the cloud.

Live sharing

Staff watch live from a link or QR code.

How each one works
  • Scheduled routes. FlightHub 2 flight plans run patrol, waypoint and mapping routes on a timer or on repeat.
  • Alarm-triggered launch. FlightHub 2's OpenAPI and FlightHub Sync connect it to other systems, so an alarm can trigger a flight. We set up and test the link with your alarm provider.
  • Auto maps & reports. Survey photos upload automatically and become 2D and 3D models. Periodic workflows can chain collection, modeling, measurement, analysis and report generation, and flight summary reports export in one click.
  • Live sharing. Livestream links and QR codes for staff, plus RTMP/RTSP forwarding to other systems through FlightHub Sync.
  • Weather holds. FlightHub 2 alerts on high winds or other conditions that could affect a flight.

Survey to sign-off

01Site survey

DJI site evaluation and test flights, plus power, network and grounding checks.

02Dock 3 install

03Configuration

FlightHub 2 set up for your property: task areas, no-fly and no-landing zones, routes and schedules.

04Commissioning

05Repair & fleet support

Repairs, maintenance and fleet support from our Akron shop.

What the site survey checks
  • Open sky. Nothing above 20° from the dock in any direction. A 10 m (33 ft) tree needs to be about 28 m (92 ft) away.
  • The spot. Level, about 1.9 × 1.9 m, non-combustible, no ponding, out of play. On a roof: at least 2 m from any edge.
  • Power. A dedicated circuit with surge protection and a tested earth ground.
  • Network. Wired internet at 20 Mbps up and down or better (40 recommended), plus a 4G backup tested on site.
  • Alternate landing site. A marked spot nearby in case the dock can't take the drone.
  • Airspace. DJI GEO zones and FAA airspace around the property.
What you get at handover

Survey results, grounding test reading, wiring photos, your FlightHub 2 organization and project, and a maintenance schedule.

The rules

Flying it by the book

Dock flights are commercial drone flights. Here is the short version.

Part 107, BVLOS and waivers
  • Part 107. Commercial drone flights need an FAA-certificated remote pilot in command, a registered drone and Remote ID. A dock doesn't change that.
  • Beyond visual line of sight. A dock flight with nobody watching the drone on site is BVLOS, which needs an FAA waiver today. The FAA's proposed BVLOS rule (Part 108) is not final yet.
  • People and night. Flights over people, over moving vehicles and at night have their own Part 107 limits. Plan routes around tee times and crowds.
  • Airspace. Near an airport, you need FAA airspace authorization first.

How waivers work →

A short summary, not legal advice. Check current FAA rules for your operation.

FAQ

Questions we hear

Can one dock cover our whole course?

Usually. DJI rates Dock 3 at a 10 km max operating radius. We confirm signal, range and flight time across your property during the site survey, and split big maps into several tasks.

Where does the dock go?

A level, open spot about 1.9 × 1.9 m with clear sky, power and wired internet, out of play. Often a pad or roof near the maintenance building.

Will it bother golfers?

High aerial overviews of the course are routine. Routes that pass close to players are planned around tee times, and Part 107 still limits flying directly over people.

Can it check turf health?

It screens for it. Thermal and high-resolution photos show wet or dry areas, stressed turf, irrigation issues and tree canopies, so your superintendent knows where to look. It isn't a diagnosis, and Dock 3 drones aren't multispectral, so there's no NDVI.

Can an alarm launch the drone?

Yes, with integration. FlightHub 2 connects to other systems through its OpenAPI and FlightHub Sync. We set up and test the link with your alarm provider.

What does it cost?

It depends on your site, the drone you choose, accessories and your FlightHub 2 plan. Contact us for a quote.
